VETERINARY CAPACITY BUILDING in the contest of the "One Health"
Objectives:
a) improvement of the "one health" skills of veterinarians, and other health categories operating in the public sector, in the field of legislation, prevention and
control of zoonotic diseases, interventions in emergency situations
b) improvement of the skills of local veterinarians operating in the area of food producing animals (mainly bovine)
c) improvement of the teaching skills of the teaching staff of the veterinary school
d) improvement of skills, competences and ability of the veterinary undergraduate and postgraduate students
Actors:
The proposing partner is the non governative association “Vet For Africa”.
The partners of the project are the following:
a) Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences of the University of Bologna - DIMEVET
b) Department of Experimental, Diagnostic and Specialty Medicine of the University of Bologna – DIMES
c) AFROHUN, Africa One Health University Network
d) School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Wollo - Ethiopia
Activities:
1) Online training activities: one week course in "International Veterinary Legislation".
Result: greater ability to interpret and disentangle the increasingly complex international legislation
2) Online training activities: one week course in "One Health: unique health and sustainable development".
Result: greater ability to face and manage problems based on the "One health" concept (safer population)
3) On-site training activities: one week course in "Anatomo-clinical approach to bovine diseases".
Result: greater ability to recognize and deal with bovine diseases (more productive and healthier animals)
4) On-site training activities: one week course in "Veterinary obstetrics and gynecology".
Expected result: greater ability to manage cattle reproduction (more productive and healthier animals)
5) On-site training activities: one week course in "Veterinary parasitology".
Expected result: greater ability to diagnose and manage veterinary parasites outbreaks (more productive and healthier animals)
6) Capacity building: one week course in "Interventions on livestock in humanitarian emergency situations: LEGS (Livestock Emergency Guidelines and Standards).
Expected result: greater ability to adopt intervention plans in case of emergencies and disasters (capacity buildings in preparing and managing humanitarian projects)
7) Capacity building: one month training internship of 4 teachers from Ethiopian University at DIMEVET or DIMES in Italy.
Expected result: greater scientific / didactic competence and intensification of collaboration relationships between universities (more effective teaching and better students)
